Communities Team

Who is the Jabiru Communities Team?

Jabiru Communities Team is about building relationships, creating safe places and engaging communities.

We do this by connecting people, resources and ideas with hopefulness and sustainable change.

Our team of community workers are from a diverse range of backgrounds and qualifications from Counselling, Community Development, Human Services and Social Work.

How we do what we do

Our community workers use a relationship, client-focused, strengths-based, ecological and Trauma informed approach when working with children, young people, families and the broader community. This means who ever we work with they are the centre of our work. Each response is tailored to the person who directs the pace, scope and extent of their support plan.

We help each person to identify and achieve their goals, and access necessary services, information and resources which might be helpful to them. Importantly, this approach enables us to take a holistic approach when we work with individual and groups of people.

Philosophies and Goals

We seek a world in which strong, confident, children and young people live safe, fulfilling lives.

We will focus our finite capacity on providing sustainable enterprise activities and programs that connect people, resources and ideas to create change for people who are marginalized and unjustly treated.

Areas of Work

  • City Play (including Nature Play and Pop up Play Bus)

Acknowledgement

We acknowledge with deep respect, the First Nations of this country, in particular, the Turrbal, Jagera, Wakka Wakka, Gubbi Gubbi, Quandamooka and Bundjalung people of this region; their Elders and Ancestors.

We mourn their dispossession and celebrate their resilience; seeking as an organisation to draw hope and inspiration from their wisdom and history; and to acknowledge and celebrate through our work, the continuity of Indigenous life and culture in the lands in which our work is located.
