Building safe spaces through trust
At Jabiru, the safety, wellbeing and inclusion of our children always comes first. By fostering trust, we can create a space for everyone to thrive. Here’s what that means to Alex Cross. One story that stands out for me was working with a young boy who had a hard time settling in. When he first started, he struggled to find his place and wasn’t connecting with the other children. I reached out to his mum, and we had some honest conversations about what he was going through. She told me what he enjoys and what makes him feel comfortable at home, which really helped me adjust things here to better suit his needs. Now he’s excited every morning, asking, “Am I going to Jabiru today?” He’s found his friends, fits in with the group, and most importantly, feels like he belongs. The impact of building these strong trusted bonds was felt beyond just the child. It mattered to his mum, to me, and to the whole service.
At Jabiru, we have the time and space to build these trusted relationships. This mutual understanding positively impacts not only the children but their parents and families. And that’s what makes all the difference.
