About Jabiru.
The Jabiru Way
Our unique combination of academic theory, practice frameworks and emotional intelligence that makes us different – in the best possible way.
Theory... meet practice
Jabiru actively shapes the future of our communities through innovation, collaboration and advocacy.
OSHC
Designing services tailored to support children’s social, emotional and cognitive development, with a focus on learning through play.
Community connection
We support young people and their families through informal mentoring, providing a safe space and access to free community and social engagement opportunities. Our Student Wellbeing Officers, or Youth Support Coordinators, become their bridge between school, family and community.
About Jabiru.
Our best brings out their best.
Jabiru is a social-for-purpose, charitable organisation. At our heart lies a single, powerful purpose: we nurture childrens’ sense of self and inspire them to live with purpose by co-creating tailored services with them, their families, schools and communities.
We provide Outside School Hours Care, health and wellbeing support in schools and communities, playgroups and community development programs — all built on strong relationships with, and a deep understanding of the communities we serve.
We are united by our curious minds and courageous hearts. It is these qualities that enable us to innovate, to empathise and to embrace every journey with courage and resilience. We believe deeply that when we bring our best selves to our work, we inspire those we support to bring out their best.
Behind the name.
Jabiru was named after the Australian native bird that flies from as far as the Northern Territory to the Tinchi Tamba Wetlands – adjacent to the community of Bracken Ridge where our organisation was founded – to bond with a mate for life and nest to raise their young. It reflects our commitment to nurture, nature and community.
Partnering with schools and community.
We strive to create a learning community where everyone feels supported and empowered to develop their full potential, both individually and as a community. That’s The Jabiru Way.
A whole-of-school approach.
At Jabiru, our Behaviour and Inclusion Framework is a relationship-centred, trauma-informed approach that works in alignment with each school’s Student Code of Conduct. Using evidence-based strategies such as co-regulation, restorative practice and multi-tiered supports, our educators focus on understanding the reasons behind behaviours, teaching essential social-emotional skills and creating capable environments where every child can succeed. We work in close partnership with the school’s leadership and Student Services Team, so our educators become embedded members of the support network, ensuring consistent expectations, shared strategies and a unified approach to children’s wellbeing and behaviour.
To us ‘community’ is a verb.
Building strong relationships with all members of the school community is paramount to us, and we actively foster these connections through regular communication, engagement and participation. Understanding how locals connect and finding the best ways to join in and support those connections, is the basis of our initial engagement strategy — and it’s vital to the success of our approach.

Embracing diversity and fostering respect.
At Jabiru, children are truly at the heart of everything we do. We tailor our programs to meet the specific needs of each child, family, and school. Our people play a crucial role in this process. They are empowered to deliver customised programs that address the diverse needs of the children in our care, their families, schools and communities, and are committed to providing high-quality care that enriches the lives of all those we serve.
Embedded in your local community.
As a for-purpose community organisation, Jabiru has deep roots in local communities like yours. We are dedicated to reinvesting any surplus funds back into communities, enabling us to provide enriching experiences, resources and opportunities for the children in our care – and their families, where needed. The families and communities surrounding your school will experience a highly responsive and locally engaged organisation supporting local businesses, employing local people and collaborating with local community groups.
Investment in the growth of our people is an investment in the futures of the children for whom we care.
We foster a culture of creativity and innovation within our organisation, by empowering our leaders and ensuring staff receive regular and relevant training. These investments of time, expertise and money ensure that programs remain responsive to the evolving needs of the children attending and maintain a dynamic, responsive OSHC service.
What do we promise our communities?
connecting them with the right people, places, resources and guidance.
Values and promise
Our values are C-R-E-C-T.
Collaborate:
support each other, to support others.
Respect:
everyone has a good that can be great.
Evolve
there’s always more to learn and do.
Connect:
keep going beyond the organisation to create and build community.
Trust:
be the ones they know they can turn to.
