Evolving through experience
We’re here to help kids reach their potential, and the same goes for our people. We love matching opportunity with ambition and helping people grow. Neelu Tandon shares her journey.
I moved from India 17 years ago and I’ve been working at Jabiru for the past 16, after being sponsored by the organisation.
I started as an educator and worked my way up to Service Manager, which involved learning a range of new skills. There were new ideas and a new culture to be unpacked, as well as the experience of life in Australia. Along the way, I was guided and mentored by several leaders who helped me get where I am today. They’ve educated me on the norms, requirements and ethics of working in this industry.
When you’re working with children, it’s not only about learning from leaders and colleagues, but also from the kids themselves. They come with a wealth of knowledge and can teach us all kinds of things. For me, they’ve shown me the value of letting go and moving on. And even how to play handball.
After working for several years on the floor, I’ve recently moved to the Service Support Team. This has been a completely new challenge, and it’s helping me develop lots of new skills. It has been a wonderful experience so far and I hope to continue growing in this role.
