Jabiru Community Services to transfer its Queensland outside school hours care services to Camp Australia
13 October 2026
Jabiru Community Services has agreed to transfer its twenty outside school hours care services in Queensland to Camp Australia. The transfer is subject to regulatory approval, expected later this year, and is planned in three stages in January 2027, with the last services moving across on the first day of Term 1.
Families, school principals and the educators at each service were told directly today. Families do not need to do anything at this stage. The Department of Education has been involved in planning the transition.
The care children receive day to day is intended to stay the same: the same educators, in the same rooms, running the same programs. Camp Australia plans to bring Jabiru’s service teams across with the services, and service staff will be offered employment with their continuity of service and leave entitlements recognised.
Jabiru Chair Sara Harrup said the board had looked closely at what the future will ask of outside school hours care providers.
“Jabiru has always been a small, local provider, and we are proud of the care we have provided,” Ms Harrup said. “What families, schools and regulators expect from providers is evolving, and we support that. We have concluded that a large national provider that specialises in outside school hours care has the scale, expertise and systems to deliver the standard of care the future will require. We chose Camp Australia because of the commitment it made to our people, to children and families and to each school community.”
Camp Australia Chief Executive Officer Craig Napier said the dedication of educators is the foundation of every successful service and are the heart of the trust families place in their communities.
“The strong relationships these teams have built with children and families are incredibly important. Families trust the people they know, and we want that trust and familiarity to continue. Our focus is on supporting educators, preserving what families value most about their service, and partnering with schools and families to ensure a smooth transition. We look forward to welcoming Jabiru’s educators into the Camp Australia family.”
Jabiru’s community programs are not part of the transfer and continue as they are.
