Creating real connections

At Jabiru, we don’t just care for children, we connect beyond. Henriette Groot shows us exactly what that looks like.

At Jabiru, we’re lucky to have the chance to build lasting relationships with the children, their families and with all the communities that support them. I’ve been working with the same group of Grade 6 students who started with us in Prep. Over the years, I’ve really gotten to know these children and their families, and these connections have made such a difference.

Building relationships goes beyond the children to their families and the wider school community. Whether it’s the librarian, cleaners or teachers, we work closely with so many people to create a strong network. What connects us all is that we share the same goal: to get the best outcomes for the children.

OSHC is unique because we get to stick with the children year after year. In schools, teachers often only see a class for one year before they move on. But that consistency and those ongoing relationships between us all is what builds the strong foundations that help them thrive.

One of my favourite memories is a drawing one of the kids made for me when they were in Prep. I kept it all these years and shared it with them at their graduation. It was a really special moment.
